Starved Rock and Sandstone point
This trail is a great option for first-time visitors to the park with several nice lookouts over the Illinois river and off-course the park's canyons.
French Canyon Trail
This is the closest canyon to the visitor center. It is a short but rewarding trail. Perfect for families as kids love to splash in the mini-falls at the entrance of the canyon.
Eagle Cliff Overlook
This should be a favorite of every birdwatcher. This trail leads to two beautiful views over the Illinois River where you can spot white pelicans and bald eagles.
Wildcat Canyon Trail
A 2-mile loop that is a nice mix of bluff side in the forest and river views on the way back. The Wildcat Canyon is the highest in the park!
The Council Overhang is a dramatic alcove in the Ottawa Canyon wall. It's a spectacular sight and not to be missed if you visit the park. Trails to Ottawa, Kaskaskia and Illinois Canyon take you past this unique feature.
Tonty Canyon Trail
Tonty canyon is a lesser-visited gorge in the park. The trail is 5 miles and leads behind the LaSalle falls. The frozen winterfall is truly amazing.
Illinois Canyon Trail
Avid hikers can start at the visitor center and hike all the way to the westernmost canyon and back to see the many beautiful sights Starved Rock has. This 9.3 mile loop guarantees a great day.
