Soon it will be Christmas again. Maybe you still need some inspiration about those presents you may want to put underneath the Christmas tree for your globetrotting friend. In that case, you came to the right place. Here’s a selection of the best Christmas present for someone going to travel.
The best Christmas present for someone going to travel
1. Noise reducing headphones
I have to admit that despite the fact that I like to fly, I don’t look forward to spend a couple of hours in economy class. And of course, even as a travel hacker, we cannot fly business class all the time. The first time I came across these headphones was on a transatlantic business class flight with American Airlines. In business class, they distribute Bose noise-reducing headphones instead of the earbuds you get in economy. I bought myself my own pair after I noticed the advantages. The noise reducing feature compensates for the monotonous hum of the aircraft engines. It helps me to sleep, or just to relax when I want to listen to some music. If you close your eyes you can completely forget you’re on an aircraft. The Bose earphones are generally recognized as the best but I’m very pleased with the ones from eXtreme I bought as well.
This is the Bose version : Bose QuietComfort 35 (Series II) Wireless Headphones, Noise Cancelling – Black
The ones from eXtreme that I bought are significantly cheaper: EXTREME ONE-EIGHTIES Active Noise Cancelling Headphones – Blackout Edition
2. World adapter
This is obviously an attribute that should not be missing in your suitcase. And as a world traveler, you obviously also opt for a universal world adapter instead of 6 or 7 different adapters.
This world adapter will be a good travel companion: SKROSS PRO PLUS USB World Adapter Dual USB White 1.302500
3. Mobile WIFI
Say goodbye to expensive roaming costs and to the insane surcharges for a GPS in your rental car. Thanks to this device and a local SIM card, you and everyone in your party, can surf anywhere at local rates. You can also use your mobile as a GPS while you still remain accessible on your own number because your SIM card from home can remain in your phone.
4. Car charger
I have not had much success with the USB ports in the rental cars. Very often I cannot charge my cell phone. That’s why I often fall back on the good old car charges. I would recommend not to rely on modern technology and provide yourself with a car charger, especially if you are going to use your mobile phone for navigation.
This charger is not too expensive and provides enough power to charge 2 devices simultaneously: Anker 24W Dual USB Car Charger, PowerDrive 2
5. b.gift gift card
What to give to someone who has everything? The gift of travel of course 🙂
Brussels Airlines again offers the b.gift vouchers. This year 3 different vouchers are available. The city voucher is similar to last year. Additionally, there is a sunny and a world voucher. The price for the city edition comes to 99€, the sunny edition costs double that amount at 198€ and the world edition will cost you 396€. The name world may be a bit misleading as it only offers 4 destinations: New York, Toronto, Washington, and Mumbai.
The recipient of the voucher can exchange it for a return flight to the destinations that are valid with the respective voucher. Both hand luggage, as well as a first suitcase (23kg), are included for all 3 types of vouchers. The trip must be taken before 15 June 2018 and must be booked during the first 2 months of 2018.
So, unfortunately, the vouchers are only valid for a short time and can not be used during the holiday period. That’s why the city voucher seems to be the best present if you ask me. A city trip is something that everyone can fit into his busy schedule in such a short term. Of course, you can also use the b.sunny voucher for a city trip to a sunny destination. 198€ is however not cheap and not such a good value for these destinations. The world edition generally offers a nice price for the 4 destinations from which you can choose. It is, of course, an expensive gift. If you already have plans to go to one of these destinations it’s the perfect gift for yourself. I did a quick search and I could not find any flights to Mumbai from Brussels under 450 €. For the other 3 destinations, I did find some prices just under 396€ on certain dates. That’s usually on low-cost carriers and without surcharges for luggage etc.
